Martial Arts Movies

April 11, 2007

Lately I’ve been getting rather interested in martial arts, again. For some reason I’ll get right into the topic of martial arts and then I’ll just lose all interest; it’s unbelievable how many martial arts classes I’ve started/stopped and it doesn’t help that there aren’t any classes besides boxing that are within running distance of my house!

Anyway, this time round I’ve just stuck to watching the movies and I’m pretty happy watching any of Jet Li’s movies. I have to say that my favorite is definitely Fearless and then probably Unleashed.

Besides these two I have also watched Hero (another of Jet Li’s movies) and several of Tony Jaa’s movies. The difference between the two fighting styles is massive and I have to say that I like them both; the grace and speed of Jet Li’s Wushu in Fearless contrasts against the powerful and aggressive Muay Thai Boxing from Tony Jaa!

300, Grease and Harry Potter 4.

April 11, 2007

How many movies can I guy watch in one day? Well I managed three and had had enough. It was Saturday night/Sunday morning when I began this movie marathon. We were all “dossing out” at a friends as his parents had gone away over easter and we decided we’d all sit and watch 300 once our BBQ’s had burnt out and we couldn’t take anymore half cooked meat.

So 300 it was. Although I wouldn’t say this movie was bad I would say I was disappointed by it. The past week or so I’ve been wanting to watch this movie and couldn’t get hold of a DVD off anyone until Saturday. The movies story is too plain and simple for my liking, I can probably explain it in one short sentence.

“300 Spartans go to war against something like 100,000 Persians and don’t even win.”

Besides the somewhat simple story and the pretty unbelievable creatures that attack these 300 Spartans, the movie is rather good. It’s almost action scene for the entire movie, besides the small sections required to explain parts of the story.

Next up was Grease. By this time we were all rather drunk and some muppet decided to put Grease – yes it’s a musical – on the TV. I hate Grease, regardless of what people say I just hate Grease and I don’t really know why. I turned this off about half way through and then we all just got drunk.

Come 1 o’clock in the morning there was only two of us left. Some people had gone home, some had gone upstairs for various reasons (;)) so we watched Harry Potter 4. That took us through to 5am-ish. A few shots of whiskey later and I was asleep!

What are we watching next week people?
